International law firm Dorsey & Whitney LLP is a proud supporter of the Volunteer Lawyers Network’s Growing for the Future Riverfront Celebration which will be hosted at the Nicollet Island Pavilion on September 13, 2018.
Volunteer Lawyers Network Ltd. (VLN), builds a better Minnesota by protecting the rights of low income people. A housing shortage, ever-changing immigration laws, increasing healthcare costs and poverty leave many Minnesotans in desperate need of affordable legal help.
Dorsey believes in meeting those challenges by supporting programs that help underprivileged people gain access to our legal system through pro bono work, providing financial support to charitable organizations or devoting personal time in volunteer service.
“Community is a Dorsey core value, and pro bono work is one of the most important ways we give back to the community”, said Eric Ruzicka, the Firm’s Pro Bono Partner. “Dorsey was an original signatory of the American Bar Association Law Firm Pro Bono Challenge back in 1993. Every year since then, we have surpassed the Challenge by devoting more than 3% of the Firm’s total billable hours to pro bono. In 2017, Dorsey lawyers across the Firm performed a total of 31,765 hours of Challenge pro bono work.”
For Minnesotans living in poverty, an advocate in the legal system can help them keep their housing, hold their family together or build a better future. All Minnesotans deserve equal access to the justice system. By supporting VLN, Dorsey is working to turn that ideal into a reality.
