The repercussions of U.S. government shutdown are widening since the impasse over President Donald Trump’s request for $5 billion regarding the construction of a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border has not been abated. As of now, appropriations have lapsed for about a fourth of federal government agencies and functions. Some agencies are closed, but others have reserve funds and will keep doors open a few more days. Some agencies will maintain essential services. The President can declare any agency or function to be essential and restore its operation. Announcements can be made at any time.

The following nine federal departments are without appropriations: Agriculture, Commerce, Homeland Security, Housing and Urban Development, Interior, Justice, State, Transportation, and Treasury. All have adopted a “Lapsed Appropriations Contingency Plan” that should be available on the agency’s website as long as it operates. The table below briefly summarized the current running statuses of several agencies:
