International law firm Dorsey & Whitney LLP announced today that Brian Vanderwoude has joined the Firm’s Trial Group in Dallas as a Partner.
Mr. Vanderwoude’s practice focuses on the representation of businesses and individuals in high-stakes civil disputes, with an emphasis on litigation and arbitration in the areas of real estate, financial services, partnerships, trusts and estates and intellectual property. He has litigated, arbitrated and mediated cases involving banking (workouts, foreclosures, “lender liability,” and other aspects of loan enforcement and collection), real estate (developer disputes, landlord/tenant litigation, broker commission disputes, boundary disputes and adverse possession), partnerships and family-owned businesses (issues involving company control, buyouts and valuation), real estate finance (default resolution, servicing and lien priority, trust disputes and guardianships), intellectual property (prosecution and defense of cases involving trade secrets, trademarks, copyrights and patents) and other matters involving various contract and business tort claims. In addition, Mr. Vanderwoude regularly advises businesses and individuals on risk assessment, risk management and risk avoidance. He has also represented multiple major universities in connection with athletic conference realignment.
Mr. Vanderwoude joins Dorsey from Winstead PC where he was a shareholder in the Dallas office and previously served as head of the Commercial Litigation Practice Group for the Dallas/Fort Worth area.
He has a B.A. degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a J.D. degree from the Southern Methodist University, Dedman School of Law, where he was Articles Editor on the SMU Law Review and a member of the SMU Board of Advocates. Mr. Vanderwoude has been recognized as a Texas “Rising Star”, 2010-2017 by Thomson Reuters and selected as one of Dallas’ “40 Under 40”, 2013 by the Dallas Business Journal.
