U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents were instructed to refrain from conducting enforcement actions in private areas such as schools, churches and healthcare facilities. But since Trump took office for a second term in January 2025, all of that has changed. Now ICE agents can show up in your healthcare facility - but what rights do patients and staff members have in that scenario?

Partner Alissa Smith was recently interviewed on the Healthcare Policy Podcast along with a general practitioner from Chicago, discussing the do’s and don'ts to handling ICE agents in healthcare settings. Alissa is Co-Chair of the Health Transactions and Regulations Practice Group at Dorsey & Whitney. She works with health systems, hospitals, pharmacies, specialty pharmacies, wholesale distributors, pharmacy benefit managers, long-term providers and more.
