With international retailers like Shein and Temu taking advantage of the de minimis exemption to ship hundreds of thousands of inexpensive products to the US each day, national manufacturers are struggling to compete and stay financially viable. The White House has expressed intent to narrow eligibility of the de minimis exemption to bolster US manufacturing and sales. Augustine Lo was interviewed by Bloomberg Law on the topic. Augustine pointed out that even with a narrower de minimis rule, other avenues and loopholes exits for China-based companies like Shein and Temu, such as producing and shipping items from Vietnam.
