Mariya has represented clients in complex high value cross-border commercial litigation in the High Court and international arbitration matters.
Her representative experience includes cases involving allegations of fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, breach of contract, conspiracy, fraudulent and negligent misrepresentation, issues of contractual interpretation, and shareholder disputes.

Claimant Work

  • Acted on behalf of a group of corporate and individual claimants in a multi-million-pound LCIA arbitration, involving a claim in deceit and breach of warranty, relating to the loss of cryptocurrency investments made.
  • Acting on behalf of the claimant in respect of a high value claim, involving a claim in deceit, fraudulent misrepresentation, breach of collateral contract, accessory liability for breach of trust and unlawful means conspiracy.
  • Acted on behalf of the main corporate defendant in CIS-related proceedings brought by a major litigation funder in the English High Court, regarding the parties’ respective entitlements under an investment agreement, to the proceeds of a $300m judgment obtained by the defendant. The case went to trial with the client achieving a victory.
  • Acted on behalf of a shareholder in the preparation and issuing of a winding up petition on the just and equitable basis pursuant to section 122(1)(g) of the Insolvency Act 1986 against a company which held substantive proceeds from an asset sale. The case was ultimately determined in our client’s favour.
  • Acted on behalf of the claimants in relation to a property dispute which went to trial and was decided in our clients’ favour.

Defendant Work

  • Acting on behalf of one of the defendants in a c. US$100m cross-border LCIA arbitration, involving allegations of conspiracy, misrepresentation, undue influence, unconscionable bargain, duress and economic duress.
  • Acting on behalf of a corporate defendant in two high value multi-jurisdictional claims in the Commercial Court, involving allegations of unlawful means conspiracy, breach of contract, deceit and dishonest assistance.
  • Acting on behalf of a defendant in high value concurrent regulatory, criminal and civil proceedings brought by the Financial Conduct Authority, involving a worldwide freezing order and a restraint order.
  • Acted on behalf of a defendant in a complex high value multi-jurisdictional claim, involving allegations of deceit, negligence, breach of fiduciary duty, dishonest assistance relating to trust assets located in Cyprus.
  • Acted on behalf of the applicant in relation to a successful High Court application challenging the court’s jurisdiction which prevented the respondent from pursuing its claim.
