Overview

KATIE ASSISTS CLIENTS WITH MANY ONGOING BUSINESS AND ADMINISTRATIVE LAW ISSUES.

Katie has been practicing in the area of health care transactions and regulations for the last 25 years. Katie assists nursing facilities and other long term care providers, hospitals, health systems, dental practices, home health agencies, mental health providers, and other health care practitioners. These representations often involve coordination with state licensing and regulatory boards, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and other governmental entities. Katie has experience representing clients in Certificate of Need related matters, in licensure and certification matters with the Iowa Department of Inspections, Appeals, and Licensing, and in matters involving Medicare and Medicaid contracting and payment related issues. Additionally, her transactional practice spans contracting, joint ventures, mergers, and acquisitions.

In addition to her client work, Katie is a frequent speaker at industry conferences, covering critical and timely issues affecting nursing facilities and assisted living programs. Her presentations address topics such as recent enforcement actions related to nonpayment of nursing facility quality assurance assessment fees, newly enacted CMS transparency rules regarding ownership and control disclosures, the classification of multi-level care facilities as continuing care retirement communities, strategies for managing residents without a payor source, and the development of effective compliance programs.

Katie is also committed to pro bono work in the healthcare field, extending her expertise beyond her primary practice areas. She actively serves on the Board of Directors for the Iowa Environmental Council, Riptide Swim Club, and the Rotary Club of Des Moines. Additionally, she is a member of the Dorsey & Whitney Foundation Board and serves on the firm's Investment Committee.
