International law firm Dorsey & Whitney LLP is pleased to announce that Of Counsel Cornell Leverette Moore will be inducted into the Virginia Union University 2015 Athletic Hall of Fame in Richmond, Virginia.
A 1961 Virginia Union graduate, Mr. Moore enters the Hall of Fame as an Athletic Supporter in recognition of his efforts as a student in organizing student-athletes in peaceful Civil Rights protests. In the spring of 1960, and in coordination with other student groups, Mr. Moore, who was a team statistician and manager, led the student-athletes, mostly football and basketball players, on marches to downtown Richmond where they participated in sit-ins at the segregated lunch counters. Assisted by the toughest team captains, Mr. Moore was recognized as a master at keeping the ranks of student-athlete protesters orderly and not letting them react to insults. Mr. Moore later served as a Virginia Union Trustee for 25 years.
Mr. Moore will join six other Virginia Union 2015 Athletic Hall of Fame inductees: Hugh Brown, Walter Cowan, the late Russell Donan, Ben Miles, Corinne Thomas and Stanley White. The ceremony will take place on Friday, September 25, during the school's Hall of Fame Weekend on the University campus.
“Cornell Moore has been a life-long advocate for Civil Rights and equal justice for all,” noted Ken Cutler, Managing Partner of Dorsey & Whitney. “This recognition is richly deserved.”
