International law firm Dorsey & Whitney LLP announced today that it is expanding in China and has opened an office in Beijing. The Beijing office is located in Beijing’s central business district at Suite 1101A, West Tower, Twin Towers, B12, Jianguomenwai Avenue, Chaoyang district, Beijing 100022, Main Phone: +86 10 8513 5900 and Fax: +86 10 8513 5911. The establishment of the Beijing office will enable the Firm to serve its Beijing-based clients more effectively and will provide the Firm with a platform for further growth in the Greater China region. Dorsey has maintained an office in Hong Kong since 1995 and in Shanghai since 2001, and it serves a broad array of multinational clients doing business in China and Chinese clients doing business around the world.
Dorsey Corporate Partner Frank Hong, who joined the Firm in its Shanghai office in 2013, will serve as head of the Beijing office. Mr. Hong’s practice focuses on advising international companies on their direct investments into China as well as advising emerging Chinese multinational corporations on their outbound investments and other aspects of doing business abroad, especially in the United States. Mr. Hong has substantial experience in cross-border M&A, Intellectual property, international trade and customs (both China and U.S.). He will be joined by Dorsey Commercial Litigation Associate Ray Liu, who has practiced in the Firm’s New York and Shanghai offices and is a member of the New York bar. Messrs. Hong and Liu are both fluent in Mandarin Chinese and English.
“Building capacities in China and in the rest of the Firm to service in-bound work from China is an important component of Dorsey’s global growth strategy,” noted Ken Cutler, Managing Partner of Dorsey & Whitney. “Having a strong on-the-ground presence in Beijing is an important step forward in effectively serving our multinational clients doing business in China and in effectively serving our China-based clients – which we are doing all around the globe and all across our areas of practice. We have more than 20 lawyers serving clients in our three Chinese offices and, in 2014, nearly 150 of our lawyers across the global platform performed significant work on China-related matters. We have Mandarin Chinese-speaking U.S. lawyers in six of our U.S. offices. This has been an area of phenomenal growth for us.”
