A team of Minneapolis Dorsey lawyers represented a woman facing termination of her Section 8 rental assistance. At an informal hearing, the Housing Authority had determined that our client’s benefits should be terminated for her failure to attend an annual recertification meeting. The hearing officer placed little weight on the fact that the first appointment date coincided with our client’s first day at work, or our client’s misunderstanding concerning the date of the second appointment. Dorsey’s representation began after this informal hearing, and the team prepared an appeal by Petition for the Writ of Certiorari to the Minnesota Court of Appeals and a Motion to Stay the Housing Authority’s decision. A discussion with the Housing Authority prior to the filing of these documents prompted the agency to overturn its decision, thus allowing our client and her three children to remain in their home.
