Margot Laporte, a Dorsey partner with extensive experience litigating and investigating in relation to the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), contributed to a CNN article discussing the new administration's revision of corruption policies and enforcement guidelines. Trump signed an executive order "Pausing Foreign Corrupt Practices Act Enforcement to Further American Economic and National Security" and newly appointed Attorney General Pamela Bondi issued a memo "Total Elimination of Cartels and Transnational Criminal Organizations" earlier this month that will significantly alter the FCPA's implementation.

Margot observed that “the Trump administration has shown that it is willing to use laws to achieve political objectives" by making a "a major shift away from DOJ’s enforcement priorities for more than a decade." While it is unclear how the new approach will affect corruption prosecution, the shift will prompt other countries to become more involved in the global arena. “The US historically has largely taken on a role as the global police force for anticorruption,” Margot shared, “but other countries have beefed up their anticorruption enforcement, so they are in a position to step in now.”
