Navigating the SEC Climate Disclosure Rule and the Changing Landscape of Sustainable Food Production

On March 21, 2022, the SEC released its anticipated rule addressing climate disclosure in public filings. The proposed rule is the among the most extensive rulemaking in SEC’s recent history and has broad reaching effects to the food and agricultural industry. While only publicly traded companies appear to be initially implicated, the effects of the new SEC Climate Disclosure Rule will reach into all levels of food production as GHG emissions must be calculated from farm to fork. An overview of the new SEC requirement disclosures, its potential effects to the food and ag industry, and the future of the rule will be provided. During the panel discussion, you will hear the perspectives from industry experts at both the national corporate and local production level on the effects of the new rule, how they are preparing for compliance, and how they are approaching the changing landscape of sustainable food production.

Potential Developments in the 2023 Farm Bill, and How They May Impact the Food & Agriculture Industry

Every five years, Congress is tasked with reauthorizing the country’s food, agricultural, and rural development policies in legislation known as the Farm Bill. In the coming year, Congress will again take up this task and the Senate and House Agriculture Committees are currently at work developing proposals and soliciting ideas from industry stakeholders and policy advocates. These proposals are broad ranging, addressing diverse topics such as reforms to the farm safety net, nutrition assistance, conservation and climate policies, rural broadband and infrastructure investments, competition in agriculture, and agricultural trade. During the panel discussion, you will hear from ag policy and industry experts on the proposals that are being considered for the upcoming Farm Bill, and how those proposals may impact the food and ag industry.
