A victory for government transparency
Following a series of drone strikes targeting U.S. citizens in Yemen, the American Civil Liberties Union requested documents from the government related to the legal and factual justifications for the targeted killings.
The government denied this request, but we continued to pursue this matter through the court system. The Justice Department was ultimately required to release the key legal memoranda that formed the basis for the government’s conclusion that the extraterritorial killing of U.S. citizens without a trial was legal. A large Dorsey pro bono team represented the ACLU in this precedent-setting victory. The team continues to pursue additional materials related to these targeted strikes.
