MINNEAPOLIS (Sept. 2, 2008) – For the third consecutive year, the law firm of Dorsey & Whitney LLP has received the top rating on the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) annual Corporate Equality Index. The index measures employer performance in ensuring fair and open workplaces for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) employees and consumers.
The index rated 583 businesses, evaluating policies and practices including non-discrimination policies, transgender health benefits and domestic partner benefits.
Dorsey, with more than 650 lawyers and 800 support staff in 18 offices worldwide, achieved a perfect rating of 100% on the survey’s 10 measures, including: a written non-discrimination policy covering sexual orientation and sexual identity; providing diversity training; offering inclusive health insurance, bereavement and family leave policies to employees with same-sex partners; providing health benefits to transgender employees; establishing GLBT employee groups; and engaging in respectful advertising to the GLBT community.

“A commitment to a diverse workplace is a natural extension of our work as lawyers,” said Marianne Short, Dorsey managing partner. “Fairness, justice, right and wrong – these are ideals we strive for every day in our work for clients. It’s fitting that we apply the same high standards to our own workplace. Further, pursuing equal opportunity is a sound business strategy: a welcoming, supportive work environment helps us attract, develop and retain the best talent available. We are proud to earn a perfect score on the Corporate Equality Index for a third straight year, and we salute the Human Rights Campaign in its efforts to promote tolerance and diversity.”
